STEP 1: Set up an interview

In Winnipeg: Contact Ryan Croy, Junior Staff Mentorship Program Coordinator, to set up an interview (contact information below). 

In Brandon and area: Contact Kiara Neville, Wonder of Work Westman Program Coordinator, to set up an interview (contact information below).

STEP 2: Fill out the paperwork 

Download and print an Application Form, fill it out, and bring it fully completed to the interview.

STEP 3: Fill out the survey

Follow the link to complete our survey.  Your responses will help us better assist you in setting and achieving your career goals.  Please try to have this completed prior to the interview:

STEP 4: Wait for your email or phone call to find out if you have been selected.



August 4, 2017 –  Invitation to apply for Junior Staff Mentorship Program issued (instructions above).

August 10, 2017 – Junior Staff interviews begin.

September 12, 2017 –  Application deadline, survey deadline, and interview scheduling deadline.  Application form, complete with parent signature must be received by this date.

September 14, 2017 – Last day of Junior Staff interviews.

September 22, 2017 – Notice of acceptance issued to successful applicants.

September 30, 2017 – Junior Staff Training (all day), attendance is mandatory.  Commitment contract and $25.00 participation fee due.

October 21, 2017 – First day of programming. Check bus schedules for transportation information.



At some point in your life you will have to go through an application process that will include an interview component. Guess what!? You are going to get ahead of the game! You are going to get started learning how to prepare for an interview a year before most of your classmates even begin applying for jobs. Look at this process as another experience to be gained. Interviews can be scary but they get easier with practice and preparation, don’t be afraid, take a chance, embrace the unknown and get informed.


What to bring to the Interview?


Interview Tips:

  1. Research – Do some research on the position for which you are applying. Understand the organization and the requirements for completion of the program.
  2. Prepare yourself – Look up some common interview questions and think about your responses. Practice what you are going to say with a friend or family member. Take an inventory of your skills and experiences; try to work them into your responses.
  3. Dress for success – Professional clothing inspires confidence and respect. Plan an outfit ahead of time, aim for business attire (dress pants and a nice top).
  4. Arrive prepared – Have your application form complete and your resume in your hand.
  5. Be on time – Applicants should show up about 15 minutes prior to their interview start time. The office is downtown and parking can be difficult to find at times, be sure to give yourself enough time to get settled.
  6. Make a good first impression – Smile and shake hands with your interviewer.
  7. Be polite, authentic, confident and enthusiastic – The key to success in an interview is how you respond to the questions posed. The quality, how much thought was given to your response, and delivery, what your body language is conveying about your feelings and thoughts regarding the question topics. Keep this in mind when you are preparing.
  8. Ask questions – It is important to think about questions to ask your interviewer. Questions show that you have done your research and you are interested in the program being offered enough to clarify the details and gain further understanding. There are always questions that are in need of answers, come prepared with some questions.


Resume Requirements: 

We understand that this is likely the first resume you have had to construct. It is important to have practice building resumes. You will not be evaluated on the content of your resume, but it is important to have it prepared and completed. Having said that, we do have some information that we wish to see included, if applicable:

  • Name and contact information clearly visible
  • Objective statement
  • Any education and/or formal training
  • Any work or employment history
  • Any volunteer experience or extra-curricular involvement
  • Any special skills or expertise
  • Any awards/achievements/accomplishments


Selection Criteria:

Candidates will be selected based on demonstrated:

  • Commitment
  • Teamwork skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Leadership capabilities
  • Interview preparedness
  • Enthusiasm and interest in the program
  • Ability to work responsibly with youth and be a role model
